Animal Support

Julian Omidi & Michael Omidi – Co-Founders of Animal Support

The purpose of Animal Support is to bring awareness to the plight that many pets face in the United States. This includes awareness regarding the abuse of pets such as cats and dogs as well as tools and resources you can use to stop, prevent, and report animal abuse in your community. Additionally Animal Support will offer support to organizations that help abused animals or as well as fight to prevent animal abuse.

Many cases of animal abuse are never reported, which indicates that much of the suffering of animals goes unrecognized. There is no national reporting system for animal abuse, but of the statistics available it seems that animal abuse crosses not only geographic but also socio-economic boundaries as well.

Canine Abuse

Unfortunately, “man’s best friend” is the animal that endures the majority of abuse; almost 65% of animal abuse cases are acts that are perpetrated on dogs. The statistics are gruesome with reported cases in the thousands for dogs being shot, forced to fight, or are being hoarded by an owner. However, these three areas combined to not add up to the number of neglect cases in 2012 alone.

Feline Abuse

Cats suffer a great deal of abuse at the hands of owners from poor nourishment to social neglect and violent abuse. About 18% of all animal abuse cases involve cruelty to cats. 3 to 4 million cats and dogs that are healthy, young, and adoptable are euthanized every year in shelters.

Other Animals Being Abused

Cats suffer a great deal of abuse at the hands of owners from poor nourishment to social neglect and violent abuse. About 18% of all animal abuse cases involve cruelty to cats. 3 to 4 million cats and dogs that are healthy, young, and adoptable are euthanized every year in shelters.

Animal Abuse and Domestic Violence
  • 13% of animal abuse involves domestic violence.
  • 71% of domestic violence victims report that their abuser also targeted their animals.
  • Many women in abusive relationships fear leaving their abuser over the concern of what will happen to their pet if they leave?

Through Animal Support we hope to end the suffering that these poor animals are enduring.
